Understanding Low Testosterone in men

Low testosterone or hypogonadism is a condition where the testicles in men do not produce enough testosterone. The American Urology Association has reported that about 2 in every 100 men have low testosterone. It is more common in men who have diabetes or who are obese.

What are the risk factors?

Some of the risk factors are:

  • HIV/AIDS

  • Previous chemotherapy or radiation therapy

  • Aging

  • Obesity

  • Malnutrition

What are the symptoms?

  • Reduced sex drive 

  • Reduced erectile function

  • Loss of body hair 

  • Less beard growth 

  • Loss of lean muscle mass

  • Feeling very tired all the time (fatigue)

  • Obesity (being overweight)

  • Symptoms of depression
