Understanding energy loss and fatigue in men

Overwhelmed with their busy lives, many men tend to experience low energy levels in their day to day lives. While physical lifestyle factors such as insufficient sleep, unhealthy eating habits and lack of physical exercise can cause low energy levels and fatigue; medical conditions such as sleep apnea and low testosterone levels can also cause low energy levels in men.

What are the symptoms?

  • Headache

  • Muscle weakness

  • Lower immune system function

  • short-term memory loss

  • Appetite loss

  • Blurry vision

  • Feeling sleepy throughout the day

What causes low energy levels in men?

Medical causes – inflexible exhaustion may be a sign of a basic illness, such as a thyroid disorder, heart disease, or diabetes.

Lifestyle-related causes – alcohol or drugs or lack of regular exercise can lead to low energy levels.

Workplace-related causes – unrecognized prolonged stress can lead to fatigue

Low Testosterone – Low testosterone levels frequently lead to fatigue in men and can affect you even if you have no other symptoms of hormonal imbalance.

When should you see a doctor?

If your low energy level is caused by mental health issues, consult a doctor, if your energy levels are low even after taking efforts to reduce your stress and other factors.

Seek immediate medical attention if you have the below symptoms:

  • Chest pain

  • Shortness of breath

  • Irregular or fast heartbeat

  • Feeling that you might pass out

  • Severe abdominal, pelvic or back pain

  • Abnormal bleeding, including bleeding from your rectum or vomiting blood

  • Severe headache
